Bassetts Castle (O Gauge)
O Gauge
Scale per foot: 7mm to 1ft
Scale ratio: 1:43.5
Gauge: 32mm
Prototype Gauge: Standard gauge
Gauge O Guild, Small Layouts Book Vol 2
Bassett Castle measures approx 12' by 2'6" (8'x 2'6" scenic plus 4'x 2'6" fiddle yard) and all fits into the back of small/medium van.
The layout was built as a compact exhibition layout and featured in the Gauge O Guild, Small Layouts Book Vol 2. It is based around the idea of a once busy village station half way up a branch line. However it is now the 1950s / early 1960s before nationalisation and the subsequent loss of most of its traffic, it has now become the end of the line acting as a terminus and freight yard serving the requirements of local farmers and small industries. Farms and the local factory are still busily producing whilst the local mine is still supplying coal. Locomotives and rolling stock are in various liveries as nationalisation is just around the corner. All the rolling stock is kit built, the track is Peco and the points are Marcway.
